(Sarplaninac)

Our kennel has had the honour to be mentioned by Obrad Skipic (YU), breeder and International Judge of the breed in his latest book called "From the Roof of the World to the Top of Balkan - Sarplaninac".

We are glad to become friends with Corinne and Patrick Rouchon and sebastien Mirkovic, some of the best experts about sarplaninac outside Balkan Country.

It is an ancient breed, with common origin with other breeds used as sheepdogs that we can now find scattered all over EurAsia, such as Sierra Estrela, Pyrenean Dog, Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog, il Komondor, Caucasian Shepherd ecc.. His duty as always been (and it is still today) to defend the herds from natural predator, such as wolves and bears, a role he performs with courage and complete devotion. This was Yugoslavia national breed, before the breaking up of this country into Slovenia, Croatia, Yugoslavia (Serbia-Kosovo-Montenegro), Bosnia Erzegovina and Macedonia; his paternity is now claimed by Yugoslavia and Macedonia, countries on whose border lies the place that gave the name to the breed. 
Infact "Shara Planina" ("sara" mountain) is a mountain chain over 2000metres high, that lies just on the border between Kosovo and Macedonia, where sheep farming is still very spread, and it could not survive without the help of these brave dogs.
F.C.I. put the breed in Group 2 with n.041. 

Sarplaninac: Weight and Height:
Males about 65 kg x 70-75 cm
Females about 50 kg x 62-68 cm.
